Eyeless in Gaza (and elsewhere)

The New York Post, famous for its front-page splashes, will always be remembered for the pithy and piquant “Headless Body in Topless Bar” — a line that re-worked for public consumption a private and long-standing sub-editors’ bad-taste joke about the demise of  actress Jayne Mansfield, decapitated when her convertible encountered an immovable obstruction: Headless Blonde in Topless Car.

That’s the thing about The Post, it goes where other and stuffier newspapers fear to tread. Its latest front page presents one more example of a truth less raffish news outlets have tried very hard not to notice:
