The latest ute a’coming

Just imagine the proper nouns were other than they are in the unfolding saga of an ASIO’s chief’s hectoring of MPs who dispute the Prime Minister’s logic that only nice things be said of Islam, lest adherents of the Religion of Peace™ grow irritable and kill people. Imagine, if you will, that Tony Abbott was yet PM and had asked the nation’s chief spy to call those same MPs and exhort them to amplify the call of Egypt’s General Sisi for an Islamic reformation.

Can’t you just picture the headlines? That we would see ‘Abbott Trashes Convention’ is an absolutely certainty. In the Fairfax Press, where business writers cannot read spreadsheets, the condemnation would be loud and long. And at the ABC even more full-on.

But so far, congenital lawyer Malcolm Turnbull has slithered away from the fracas, staying one step removed from scandal, the press corps being down in the cellar to drive their stakes through the deposed PMs heart. Somehow, one way or another, they simply must banish him from the public stage.
