The Two Horsemen

It used to take Four Horsemen in their day

To push the Apocalyptic ending through,

But streamlining has been the modern way

And now the task requires only two—

Rampage and Anomie are their names

And their functions are cleverly combined.

The first brings the chaos and the flames,

The second desolates the heart and mind.

The loud one revels in the cruder part,

Smashing the world up with an iron fist.

The quiet one has the more subtle art

And leaches away the will to resist.

From one we get the riot and the din

And the endless reek of death in the air,

From the other the emptiness within

That ensures we no longer even care.
