Sombre … yes: I think sombre is the best single word to describe the brownish mood pervading my study tonight. It could hardly be otherwise, for I am writing about Papua New Guinea—that beautiful but almost broken country, squandering its potential to be rich, happy, vibrant, achieving and respected.
